Dave Wilson, Senior Director, Global Health & Life Sciences at Hitachi Data Systems has kicked off a series of blogs with an introduction to the healthcare sector’s attitude to cloud computing. Wilson claims there’s a ten year delay in new technology adoption in the healthcare sector and it traditionally only injects ten per cent of revenue into IT, compared to other industries that invest 25 per cent.

The healthcare sector is traditionally one that struggles with change but Wilson suggests cloud computing can help with that as it doesn’t require heavy capital expenditure or infrastructure change.

“Reports show as many as 30% of healthcare organizations are either implementing or operating cloud-based solutions”, Wilson notes before stating that cloud computing is certainly on the healthcare agenda: “37% of healthcare providers have cloud adoption in their strategic plans”.
