Analyst Gartner has reported that data centre managers are under increasing pressure to expand their systems as a result of unstructured data and mobility. This is because a growing number of people are requesting access to information.

Matthew Boon, Gartner Australia managing vice-president said: “The challenge that data centre managers face is not just how they can grow the systems to manage storage, [but that] a lot of that is unstructured data.”

The pressure trend was discovered during a survey which also revealed the ongoing popularity of cloud technology. Despite this, the opinion of Gartner is that the lasting financial benefits of the cloud are not yet fully understood and conveyed by vendors. This is the message Gartner now wants to push, due in part, to the fact that 40 per cent of IT budgets are being spent on operations and data centre infrastructure.
