KEMP Introduces Support For Smart Cards

KEMP Technologies has announced that its LoadMaster product line now includes technology support for Federal Identity Smart Cards, including the PIV (Personal Identity Verification), the DoD CAC (Common Access Card), and the TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).

The only ADC/load balancer provider to accommodate this type of smart card, KEMP provides support for hardware, virtual, cloud and bare-metal platforms.

The smart cards are used to identify active duty military personnel, selected reserve, US Department of Defense (DoD) civilian employees and eligible contractor personnel, providing them with access to buildings, protected areas and DoD computer networks.

By leveraging a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) Security Certificate, the cards satisfy the two factor authentication, featuring digital security and data encryption, to verify a cardholder's identify prior to allowing access to protected and secure resources.

As part of the KEMP LoadMaster Load Balancer ADC technology, KEMP provides a range of integrated security capabilities as standard features, providing real-time threat protection for both packaged and custom applications, as well as data leak prevention and support for PCI-DSS compliance.

Commenting on the deployment, KEMP CMO and co-founder Peter Melerud suggested that the firm provided the perfect solution for the smart card system based on both price and capabilities.

He said: "KEMP is committed to providing the sophisticated technologies required to support the efforts of the US Government and Department of Defense, while delivering substantial value when compared to alternative competitive offerings."
